Hauskaa’s Commitment to Sustainability
We offer an inspiring alternative to throwaway culture, committed to the wellbeing of communities locally and globally. Through intentional decisions, we seek to create an environmentally sustainable home for all.
Sustainable, Upcycled Little Wooden Houses and Keepsake Villages
Hauskaa crafts heirloom-quality slow home decor for year-round use. Our commitment is to crafting sustainable, multi-generational pieces.
- 100% of our walnut products are upcycled Vermont wood.
- Maple woods undergo a chemical-free, natural process of torrefaction for a rich brown hue and water resistance.
- We use non-toxic Tung oil finishes and 2,000-year-old milk paint recipes.
- Our candlestick holders feature 100% U.S.-sourced copper.
Upcycled Trees
Hauskaa fir trees are uniquely handcrafted from upcycled baseball bat scrap, sourced from a Maine manufacturer. A master craftsman turns each tree one-by-one on a lathe.
Handcrafted Candles
Hauskaa candles come from small, regional family businesses. Our 6″ mini tapers are made by a third-generation Maine company. The 4-inch tapers are sourced from a family business in Upstate New York with German roots.
Recyclable and Compostable Packaging
Hauskaa packaging is eco-friendly from start to finish. We use 100% recyclable cardboard and nestle products in 100% compostable wood curls and paper ribbon from biodegradable cotton. The wood curls can stoke fires or mulch gardens, while birds can use the ribbon for nests.
Made by a Local Community
Hauskaa is a small, woman-owned Vermont business focused on hiring locally and contributing to Northern Vermont’s economic vitality. We further support our community through corporate giving to area nonprofits serving important needs, including The Foundry, Hauskaa’s birthplace.
